Why study Physical Education?
As the benefits of physical activity are proved both physiologically and psychologically, and as the message is delivered to the masses regarding how mental well-being can be hugely improved with some physical exertion, an ever-developing market has grown around this with links to many different industries. Physical Education is one of the fastest growing and exciting areas of study and links very well to many developing industries both within elite and foundation levels of activity and sport. A-Level PE provides a hugely broad topic base including Anatomy and Physiology as well as Psychology, Biomechanics and the development of Physical Education and the history of sports as we know them today.
What will I study?
- Paper 1: Factors affecting participation - Students will study: Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Skill Acquisition and Sport and Society.
- Paper 2: Factors affecting optimal performance - Students will study: Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, Sport Psychology and Sport and Society and Technology in Sport
- Non-Examination Assessment: Practical Performance - Students will be assessed in the role of either player/performer or coach.
- Coursework: Written analysis of performance - Students will have to analyse two weaknesses of their practical performance and evaluate with great technical analysis how they plan to improve these weaknesses.
How will I study?
Lessons will be theory based. Students will be required to be performing to a high level of competitive sport outside of school with regular competitive fixtures. Students will be responsible for videoing their games throughout the course, for moderation purposes.
How will my work be assessed?
- Paper 1: 2 hour exam - 35% of final mark
- Paper 2: 2 hour exam - 35% of final mark
- Practical Performance - 15% of final mark Coursework - 15% of final mark
